About Stitt Library

Services and spaces

The work of the library involves collecting material to support student learning and faculty research, teaching the students and faculty how to use those resources, and providing pleasant and effective physical and virtual spaces in which to interact with the collections.

The library has open stacks, a large reading room, group study space, and quiet study carrels, exhibits, and displays for our students, faculty, and guests.

We are open to the public – anyone in the Austin area can get a library card for $5.

Looking toward the future

We are currently raising funds to remodel and modernize Stitt Library. See the campaign page for more information.

At present the collection includes over 135,000 print volumes and 300,000 e-books with excellent holdings in most theological subject areas. Particular strengths are biblical studies, Christian ethics, the continental Reformation, pastoral care, Presbyterianism, and theology.

The Austin Seminary Archives, on the third floor of Stitt Library, contains records documenting the history of the school as well as material related to the history of Presbyterianism in Texas and the Southwest.

Our students also enjoy borrowing privileges at the Seminary of the Southwest and the University of Texas at Austin.
