About the Keynote and Keynote Speaker
Dr. David F. White
Keynote: “Dreamcare: A Theology of Youth, Spirit and Vocation”
In the plenary sessions, Dr. David F. White will lead us in exploring how we deepen our own purpose as ministers with and for teenagers, and how we help youth find God’s purpose for their lives.
Time together will include reflection on ministry and self-care in small groups, delving into a relevant topic for ministry, worship, spiritual practices, brainstorming and sharing resources and best practices.
David F. White, C. Ellis Nelson Professor of Christian Education at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, joined the faculty of Austin Seminary in 2005. Prior to his appointment, he was visiting assistant professor of youth and education and associate director of research for the Youth Theological Initiative at Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. From 1997-2002 he was executive director of the Youth Discipleship Project at Claremont School of Theology, a research project exploring alternative approaches to work with youth and with congregational discernment. Ordained in the United Methodist Church, White served the church in positions including minister of youth, co-pastor, conference coordinator of youth ministries, and associate pastor in Mississippi, California and Alaska. His publications include Dreamcare: A Theology of Youth, Spirit, and Vocation, Awakening Youth Discipleship in a Consumer Culture (coauthored with Brian Mahan and Michael Warren), Practicing Discernment with Youth, and a number of journal articles.
