Biographical Note: Stanley Robertson Hall (1949-2008) was a professor of liturgics and worship at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary (APTS) from 1992 until 2008. He received a B.A. in political science from Purdue University in 1971, a M.Div. from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1975, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in liturgical studies from the University of Notre Dame in 1986 and 1990. He was ordained in 1976 and served as a pastor in Indiana, Oregon and Ohio. He served as a consultant for many liturgical publications including the Book of Common Worship and Reformed Liturgy & Music, and was involved in church renovation projects. Hall was married to Reverend Gail Snodgrass.

Scope and Contents: Thirty inches of course materials, student assignments, notes, prayers, music, and church bulletins (1956-2008) are arranged in two sub-groups to document Hall’s role as a professor and his involvement with the Genesis Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas as well as the work of his wife, the Reverend Gail Snodgrass, and her role as the pastor of the Genesis Presbyterian Church. Sub-group I: Stanley Hall contains the bulk of the collection. The bulk of this group is the series “Courses,” which includes notes, readings, and handouts for the courses Hall taught as a professor of liturgy and worship at APTS. Other series include “Music,” containing choral sheet music from Hall’s involvement with the Genesis Presbyterian Church choir and “Genesis Presbyterian Church” consisting mostly of service bulletins. The second sub-group contains materials relating to Reverend Gail Snodgrass including correspondence, a transcription of a response to Dr. Gordon Lathrop and documentation from a workshop on American funeral rites.

Restrictions: Student assignments are restricted until 2085, eighty years from the date of creation. All other materials are available by appointment only. Contact the archivist for details.
