Biographical Note: Franklin Smith Henderson (1883-1936), Presbyterian pastor, was born in Lindale, Texas on December 26, 1883. He attended Austin College from 1903-1907 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation, he attended Austin Presbyterian Seminary from 1907-1910. He received a Bachelor of Divinity and was ordained by Paris Presbytery. He served as pastor throughout Texas: Pittsburg (1910-1911), Greenhill (1910-1911), Big Spring (1911-1914), Coleman (1914-1918), First Presbyterian/Westminster in Beaumont (1918-1921), Navasota (1921-1927), and Central Park in Houston (1927-1936). In addition, he served as stated clerk for the El Paso Presbytery (1912-1914) and the Brazos Presbytery (1933-1935). He received a Doctorate of Divinity from Austin College in 1935. He died on January 26, 1936.

Scope and Contents: The Franklin Smith Henderson Papers are comprised of letters, clippings, a program, and a resolution documenting his graduation from Austin College, his ordination, and his service to First Presbyterian Church in Beaumont (1907-1935).

Materials in accession #2007-009 were originally held at the Montreat office of the Presbyterian Historical Society. They were transferred to the Austin Seminary Archives in 2007. Some items in this collection have handwritten numbers in pencil that were added by staff at the Presbyterian Historical Society.
