Black History Month at Austin Seminary

Please see the upcoming opportunities here at Austin Seminary celebrating Black History Month! All are welcome to attend.

February 10 | MLK Service & Luncheon

Every year Austin Seminary also hosts a Eucharist service and community luncheon in February, where we honor and remember The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through worship (featuring a guest preacher) and fellowship.

We're so excited to have The Rev. Marcus Jones, University Chaplain for Huston-Tillotson University, as this year's MLK Service Preacher! This year's service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at 11:10AM in Shelton Chapel, a community lunch will follow the service in Stotts Dining Hall. All are invited to join!

The service will also feature a special performance by the Huston-Tillotson University Concert Choir, and is led by the Yele Student Group.

The service will be livestreamed as well at www.austinseminary.edu/livestream.

About The Levites
For over a decade now, THE LEVITES have been making waves in the music industry both nationally and internationally! They've pushed the musical boundaries to the max by collaborating with many of today's mainstream artists. Their musical influences are many, but perhaps their style can best be described as a fusion of Jazz, Soul, Roots Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Hip Hop, R&B, and Zydeco. Sounds farfetched but experiencing them live will make you a believer.

February 27 - 28 | HESED Lectures

Registration is now open for the annual HESED Lecture Series at Austin Seminary, scheduled for February 27 -28! This year’s theme for HESED is “Through the Desert, We are One: Reclaiming Human Dignity and Sacred Truth.” Drawing from Hagar’s journey, from bondage to freedom, we walk through desolation and hopelessness and see the parallels in our world today. We see our human story. Patterns of empire, systemic injustice, greed and humans treated as commodities, in competition to survive. We draw strength from Hagar’s courage and faith in the desert. We follow her path out of the desert, holding God’s sacred truth as our north star. Through workshops on migration with dignity, policy justice, and uplift of stories, we hope to equip the community for advocacy and action.

Sponsored by the LatinX and African and African Diaspora Student Groups. HESED is funded in part by the K.C. Ptomey, Jr. Memorial Fund.
