2015 MidWinter Lectures

In keeping with tradition, the 2015 MidWinter Lectures will feature three dynamic speakers and a compelling preacher. During the three days of the series, Austin Seminary students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends gather on campus to hear from leaders in church and academy and to enjoy the warmth of fellowship that distinguishes our community.

Beverly Gaventa
Distinguished Professor of New Testament, Baylor University
Beverly Roberts Gaventa joined the Baylor faculty in 2013. She previously taught at Princeton Theological Seminary, Columbia Seminary, and Colgate Rochester Divinity School. She has been active in a number of professional societies, including Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the American Theological Association. She has served on a number of editorial boards and lectured widely in the United States, Canada, Europe, South Africa, and Australia.
Kimberly B. Long
Associate Professor of Worship at Columbia Theological Seminary, Atlanta, Georgia
Dr. Kimberly Long is interested in the formation of ministers for liturgical leadership in the church, with a particular emphasis on the sacramental and eschatological dimensions of worship. In addition to working in the area of liturgical language, she is currently researching the theology and history of marriage.
Jack Haberer
Pastor of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church, Naples, Florida
Jack Haberer is Pastor of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida. He is also the author of two books; GodViews: The Convictions that Drive Us and Divide Us, and Living the Presence of the Spirit. Godviews is an analysis of five different missional passions that drive Christians to varying visions of service, but also put them at odds with other Christians' missional passions. Living the Presence of the Spirit is a study of the unfolding story of the Presence of the Holy Spirit of God from Genesis through Revelation, ever applying that story to the life of the believer.
Paul Roberts
Dean and President, Johnson C. Smith Seminary, Atlanta, Georgia
Paul T. Roberts, Sr. is the President/Dean of Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary (JCSTS) in Atlanta, GA, a position he has held since the spring of 2010. Roberts graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture and African-American Studies. After working for eight years in advertising in New York City, he went to Atlanta and earned his Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in New Testament Studies at Johnson C. Smith Seminary. Paul also is an Academic Fellow of the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey in Switzerland.
Beginning in 1997 and for the next 13 years, Paul was the pastor of Church of the Master (PCUSA), a church founded in 1965 as an intentionally interracial congregation. He is a contributing writer to Pastoral Care: A Case Study Approach by Orbis Books in 1998, and to Feasting on the Gospels by Westminster/John Knox Press released in December 2013.
