Immigration & Justice

Immigration is always a hot topic— from a political and social standpoint. During the 220th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), which was held last week in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the GA approved a long list of recommendations to "show the church's solidarity with immigrants and refugees in the United States." (The recap of the Assembly's actions can be found here.)

As Christians we are called to love one another. This month we highlight the works of some Austin Seminary students participating in the Hutto Visitation Program. Through this program they share the hope and love of Christ to women who are detained at a residential center just north of Austin. We also feature an alumna who passionately advocates for DREAM Act students in Arizona. Later this fall, Dr. Néstor Rodríguez of The University of Texas will speak as the 2012 Heyer lecturer on the topic of immigration. Also, Education Beyond the Walls, lifelong learning at Austin Seminary, will host its second Crossing the Borders workshop.
