MDiv / MSSW Dual Degree
If you have a deep passion for non-traditional ministries, including agency-based social service, social justice advocacy, policy-oriented ministries, and clinical counseling, this program is designed for you. You will pursue two distinct, yet intertwined, degrees—the MDiv from Austin Seminary and the MSSW from The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work—providing you with added resources, whether you plan to serve in traditional ministry settings as a pastor or chaplain, in the specialized field of social work, or in a bi-vocational setting.
The Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Austin Seminary, combined with the Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) from The University of Texas at Austin (U.T.) Steve Hicks School of Social Work, is a response to the growing demand for social workers to be sensitive toward and proficient in their understandings of their clients’ religious and spiritual lives. This goal of the program is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to think theologically and serve creatively so you may alleviate critical social problems within faith-based communities, social services agencies, and in clinical counseling positions.
Students in the dual-degree program will receive two degrees, one from each institution. As much as possible, the program of study will be tailored to meet students’ individual vocational interests and needs.
