The Undying Metaphors are one of the cohorts funded by Austin Seminary's College of Pastoral Leaders. Jessie, Matt, Michael and Owen are on a penultimate mission to make theology applicable to people who, quite frankly, “just don't give a crap.”
In the meantime, join them as they explore various Biblical metaphors such as bread-making, vine-growing, wilderness-wandering, and war-waging.
How, they ask themselves, can we articulate a message of faithful living in this culture since our images are so vastly different from those when Jesus walked the earth? The ultimate mission for this wily group of ministers is not to jettison the biblical language, but to experience these Kingdom metaphors in order to speak more intelligibly to their own generation. Keep coming back for more!
Here's an excerpt from a recent sermon preached by Matt, one of the cohort members.
"Christ makes us bread for the world. He blesses our lives and makes us complete. And then, Christ sends us into the world to be given in service of others. When we believe in the one who has come down from heaven and has fed us with his body, we are made into heaven-baked bread, blessed and given in service to the world. Through Christ, we become the live-giving bread, the body of Jesus Christ." To read the entire sermon, go here
