Dr. Rigby says: One of the most controversial questions in theological circles today is: Did God really need his son to die in order to be able to forgive us? In these lectures, we reflect on this difficult question, exploring ways to understand the importance of the cross that take into account the whole story of Jesus Christ. What does the manger tell us about the cross? What does the cross tell us about the resurrection? And what does scripture mean when it says we are to take up our cross and follow Christ? However we answer the difficult questions about the cross, one thing is clear: it reminds us that Jesus loves us so much that he held nothing back from us. Even in the very darkest places and times, the cross reminds us to cling fiercely to hope.
