Sneak Peek at the 2013 Austin Seminary Association Banquet, Feb. 6
The Austin Seminary Association (ASA) will be honoring three distinguished alumni for their outstanding service to the church during the annual ASA Banquet on Wednesday, February 6. John McCoy (MDiv’63), Greg McDonnell (MDiv’81), and Helen Locklear (MDiv’89) will be presented the Award for Service.
- Dr. John M. McCoy, Jr. is a retired pastor, last serving NorthPark Presbyterian Church in Dallas. He has also served churches in Texas and North Carolina, including as the interim Senior Pastor at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, and as the Theologian in Residence in that congregation.
- Rev. Greg McDonell retired in 2012 after 31 years of service to the church, most recently at Central Presbyterian Church in Austin. Prior to this he was employed for ten years with Deere and Co. He is most proud of his work encouraging many others to enter the ministry, his work in the area of interfaith dialogue, and his efforts to help bring about a more open, loving, and inclusive faith family.
- Rev. Helen Locklear currently serves as Regional Representative at the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). She previously served the General Assembly of the PC(USA) as Deputy Executive Director for the former General Assembly Council, as well as the Associate Director for Racial Ethnic Ministries.
These recipients are nominated by their peers and selected by the ASA Awards Committee and Board for their dedication and outstanding service to the church and community.
Tickets are still available for $15. (Side note: You'll be in for a treat! Students, faculty, and staff have been raving all year about the new food services that will be catering this luncheon.)
