Services of Word and Sacrament, prayer, and praise are central to Austin Seminary's formation as a community of God's people. We gather for morning chapel services at 11:10 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday when classes are in session. Community Eucharist is celebrated on Tuesdays. Student-led services are usually on Monday and Thursday. A number of guest preachers will lead us in Services of the Word on selected Thursdays this academic school year. Daily prayer, hymn sings, and contemplative services are also included in the chapel calendar.
Special services compliment our daily discipline of worship: Taizé, healing and wholeness, and praise services are often designed and led by students. Seasonal services include Advent Vespers, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. We welcome guest preachers for the annual services of the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration, MidWinter Lectures, and other special occasions.
Please see the calendar below for a schedule of these services. Daily chapel is coordinated by the Worship Committee. Special services are under the direction of the President’s Office. The Seminary’s worship life is guided by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Directory for Worship.
Worship on campus is intended to augment rather than substitute for Sunday worship in a local church. Austin Seminary students are strongly encouraged to find a local church home, and to participate regularly in the worship of that congregation.
