Alumni

Austin Seminary graduates are popping up everywhere. In its one hundred year plus history, Austin Seminary has touched the lives of more than 3,000 students. The Austin Seminary Alumni web page provides an on-line location for former classmates to catch up and share information about their lives, families, and ministries; it also serves to strengthen and maintain connections between the Seminary and its graduates.

This workshop will be held in McCord 204 September 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (It includes free lunch). Participants will include ASA Board Members, Local Alumni, and current students.

We’ve all heard how young people are leaving the church in droves and many have experienced this reality first hand. At the same time, both pollsters and personal connections make us aware of a rising new demographic, those who self-identify as “Spiritual But Not Religious” (aka “the Nones”). Often these two groups, the Millennial generation and the Nones, are one and the same. This workshop will look into the reasons young people seem to be wandering away from institutional Christianity, and explore the various ministry practices that have proven at least somewhat successful at stemming this tide. We will go beyond this, however, to also ask what new and challenging truths the church in fact needs to humbly learn from the Spiritual But Not Religious generation, and brainstorm together how the institution of church itself could be radically reimagined in response to these new realities.
This workshop will be facilitated by Mike Clawson, an adjunct Faculty Instructor at APTS. Having received a MATS degree from Austin Seminary in 2010, Mike is currently at Baylor University finishing his doctoral dissertation on the roots of the Emerging Church Movement. Prior to coming to Texas he has been a youth pastor, an emerging church planter, and the National Cohorts Coordinator for Emergent Village. Mike currently resides in Austin, TX with his two children, Emma (9) and Aidan (6).
